Where does Dr. Bolitho
perform surgery?
Dr. Bolitho has an
on-site, fully accredited (by the
American Association for Accreditation
of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities)
operating
room where he performs most of his
procedures. He is also certified to
perform surgery at Scripps Memorial
Hospital - La Jolla, Sharp Mary Birch
Hospital for Women, and Sharp Memorial
Hospital.
What kind of
anesthesia will be used?
Each plastic surgery
procedure carries a different level of
discomfort, and requires different
methods of anesthetizing. Minor,
non-invasive surgeries might involve a
topical anesthetic, while more involved
surgeries typically involve general
anesthesia.
Is plastic surgery
inpatient or outpatient?
Most plastic surgery
procedures are performed on an
outpatient basis. In some cases, usually
when the surgery is very extensive, an
overnight stay at the hospital might be
required.
Will my plastic
surgery be painful?
Each patient will
tolerate pain post-operatively in a
different way. Appropriate pain
medications are prescribed for
post-operative patients, and these help
minimize discomfort. Most facial
cosmetic operations have minimal
discomfort post- operatively.
Liposuction is slightly more
uncomfortable, and operations that
require elevation or tightening of the
muscles, such as an abdominoplasty or
breast augmentation, are typically
slightly more uncomfortable.
How long will recovery
take?
The length of time it
takes to recuperate after plastic
surgery varies depending on the
procedure performed and the person
operated on. For surgeries performed
under general anesthesia, most patients
will require assistance for the first
two days post-surgery.
Is plastic
surgery with Dr. Bolitho covered by
insurance?
In most cases,
aesthetic surgery is considered elective
and, therefore, is usually not covered
by medical insurance. Reconstructive
surgery, however, is typically partially
or fully covered by insurance.
Can I finance my
plastic surgery?
For financial assistance,
we recommend
Cosmetic Fee,
Surgery Loans and
Care Credit. During your
consultation, a member of the office
team can explain your financing options
with you and let you know how to get in
touch with the providers.
