LATISSE®

LATISSE® is the brand name for the only FDA approved product that increases the length, thickness, and dark color of eyelashes. It is a prescription treatment that requires a consultation with a physician. While any doctor can prescribe this solution, a specialist in aesthetic procedures will have the most familiarity with the proper use and possible side effects of LATISSE. San Diego area residents can contact Dr. Bolitho's office for a quick consultation to find out if this treatment is appropriate for them.

The Best Candidates for LATISSE

This product is intended for use by individuals who have hypotrichosis (sparse, thin eyelashes). The formula is designed to make lashes grow naturally longer and more densely along the upper eyelid. Patients who can commit to applying the treatment every day will enjoy the best outcome.

Since the full results may take up to 16 weeks to develop, patience is important. This product isn't a substitute for mascara; however, it can be used in conjunction with mascara for a better overall effect.

For those experiencing eyelash loss, LATISSE can be used as an alternative to eyelash extensions.

Using LATISSE

You can safely apply your prescription LATISSE at home if you follow the instructions carefully:

Precautions

Avoid brushing this product beyond the edge of your upper eyelid - it may cause unwanted hair growth. Blot any excess with a tissue. Don't use LATISSE on your lower lids. Try not to get it in your eye. This product is a sterile bimatoprost 0.03% ophthalmic solution. If you do accidentally drip a small amount of LATISSE in your eye, don't wash it out; it won't hurt you.

Expected Results

Growing eyelashes takes time. It may be difficult to tell when they first begin to get thicker, longer, and darker. If possible, take a photo once per month so you can track your progress.

Results from clinical trials demonstrate that most users experience a 25% increase in lash length after 16 weeks of treatment. Many patients notice some improvement after the first 8 weeks. Continued use of this solution is required to maintain the luxurious effect.

Risks & Complications

Eye redness and itching of the eyes may occur in rare cases. If this happens to you, consult with our trained staff. They may be able to work with you to reduce these symptoms. For example, they can help ensure that you are applying the product correctly and not overdoing it.

Seek medical care immediately if you have the symptoms of a bacterial eye infection or if you experience changes in vision while using LATISSE. Patients with a history of elevated intraocular pressure (high pressure inside the eyeball) or who are taking medication to treat such a condition will require additional supervision from Dr. Bolitho.
